Chemical Peel in Plano, TX

Overview

Chemical peels aid in improving the tone and texture of the skin. A special peel solution increases cellular turnover by causing dead skin cells to slough off. This rejuvenation leaves the skin looking and feeling younger! This rejuvenation procedure is great for dull-looking skin, acne and acne scars, hyperpigmentation, fine lines, and much more! At Beyond Beautiful, board-certified facial plastic surgeon Dr. Vu Ho offer light peels, such as lactic acid and glycolic acid peels, as well as medium depth peels, including TCA and Jessner peels. There is minimal downtime depending upon the depth of the peel. If you have 30-60 minutes to spare, you can choose a chemical peel, which is typically performed monthly. Our medical aesthetician will discuss your recommendations during a complimentary consultation at our office in Plano, TX.

Superficial/Light Peels

The superficial/light chemical peels are the mildest form of peels and work by removing the outermost layer of skin. The peel is usually a diluted version of glycolic acid that is left on the skin for a few minutes. Afterward, the skin will be slightly red, but there will be no downtime. The patient’s skin will peel slightly for 3 – 5 days, and a series of treatments are usually required.

Medium Depth Peels

Medium depth peels remove several layers of skin to treat more troublesome skin problems. These peels are good for moderate to severe lines and wrinkles, as well as moderate scars and other skin problems. TCA, or Trichloroacetic Acid, is applied by the medical professional in a controlled manner. After a certain point, the acid will be neutralized to stop its effects. The recovery period is about 10 days for this peel, and the results will be more dramatic as compared to a light peel.

Deep Peels

Deep peels produce the most dramatic results and are reserved for more serious skin conditions. Since it’s an invasive procedure, general anesthesia can be used. Phenol acid is used for severe lines and wrinkles, various facial irregularities, and deep acne scars. It takes a patient about 14 days to recover since the peel is similar to second-degree burns. Since the peel is so invasive and produces such great results, only one peel is needed.

Best Candidates

The ideal candidates for chemical peels:

  • Have any skin tone and complexion
  • Have fine lines and wrinkles, acne scars, hyperpigmentation, uneven texture and tone
  • Desire long-term results
  • Desire youthful, better-looking skin

What to Expect

Before any chemical peel, the skin will be thoroughly assessed to determine the exact skin concerns and the most appropriate peel. The skin will be thoroughly cleaned and prepped prior to the peel. The length of treatment depends on the type of peel administered. Afterward, the patient will need to follow a skincare routine to protect the skin and enhance the effects of the peel. If additional treatments are needed, the medical professional will schedule as needed for maximum results.

Chemical Peel FAQ

How much does a chemical peel cost?
Dr. Holden can discuss your costs in your consultation as soon as He has made your chemical peel treatment plan. Costs for a chemical peel can vary based on the intensity you choose. Beyond Beautiful Texas Plastic Surgery takes many payments methods and you can ask about current specials on treatments like chemical peels. Buying a package with several chemical peel treatments can also help you save money.

What level should I choose for my chemical peel?
Which level of chemical peel is best for you will depend on your unique skin needs and cosmetic goals. During your consultation with Dr. Holden, He can help you select which formula is best for your skin. Some factors you may want to consider are your general health, the type of skin you have, the depth of your skin concerns, how long you can spend in recovery, and what you want the peel to accomplish. For first time patients, it's better to start with a lighter peel and see how you like the results. After this, you and Dr. Holden can alter your treatment plan to find the best type of peel for you.

Should I get a chemical peel or dermabrasion treatment?
Both dermabrasion and chemical peels are facial treatments that treat surface imperfections to make your skin a softer appearance. The main difference is that dermabrasion requires special tools (a rotating brush or shaving instrument) to remove the surface skin layer with a careful scraping process. A chemical peel uses a caustic solution that is applied to your skin to dissolve damaged skin cells. In your consultation, Dr. Holden will go over the advantages of each and help you choose whether a chemical peel or dermabrasion is better to achieve your skin goals.
