What is a neck lift?

For patients with excessive and loose skin in the neck region, the laser neck lift is a minimally invasive procedure done on an outpatient basis. The results are a noticeable improvement to the tone, texture, and firmness of neck skin. The procedure usually takes less than 1 hour to complete and most patients are able to resume normal activity immediately afterwards. Patients can feel extremely confident in getting the neck lift by Plano, TX double facial plastic surgeon Dr. Vu Ho, who was actually the first doctor in Texas to perform the laser neck lift technique.

At Beyond Beautiful, a patient can expect the laser neck lift to involve:

  • Local anesthesia with optional sedation or general anesthesia
  • A small cannula inserted through mini-incisions behind the ears and under the chin
  • Precise laser treatment under the skin surface to safely heat and tighten aging skin and stimulate the formation of collagen
  • The outer layer of the skin being resurfaced with a fractional CO2 laser
  • The excellent results of a two-layer sandwich-like effect for maximal tissue tightening

What to Expect during a neck lift

Neck lift surgery is done as an outpatient procedure.  The surgeon will start off by making an incision under the chin or in front of or behind the patient’s ears. When there’s abundant fat in the region, liposuction will be the first step of the surgery to remove this excess fat. The underlying neck muscles will then be pulled tight. Then, the skin will be trimmed and the remaining skin will be re-draped for a tighter, smoother appearance. Stitches, or sutures, are placed deep in the neck wall. The surgeon may also place a drain in the surgical site to control bleeding. The entire surgery typically lasts 2 hours.

How long is recovery after A neck lift?

Following a neck lift surgery, a patient commonly experiences some amount of bruising and swelling in the neck area. It’s also common for patients to have a sensation of tightness and pulling, which is a result of the neck adjusting into the new position. Typically, patients are able to return to their normal routine, such as work, in around 7 – 10 days. After a few months, a patient should be able to see the full effects of the surgery with a tighter, smoother, more contoured neck. There will be very minimal scarring since the incisions were placed in discreet places.

Neck Lift FAQs

How much does a neck lift cost?
The price of your neck lift can be discussed during your initial consultation with Dr. Ho. As soon as they have developed your personal surgical plan, we can estimate costs for the facility, anesthesia, and miscellaneous fees. To help make your neck surgery easy to afford, Beyond Beautiful Cosmetic Surgery accepts several payments methods, and we can give you information on low-interest medical financing.

What about nonsurgical options?
Surgery is the only option to eliminate loose skin, particularly if it hangs or droops. While there are a few nonsurgical skin tightening procedures that can give you mild improvements, surgery offers the most significant improvements to smooth and redefine the contours of your neck.

Will I have visible scars?
A neck lift does require one incision under the chin and two more near the ears. These are placed so the scars are very difficult for others to see. We make every effort during your surgery to avoid visible scarring. A team member will explain scar care instructions that will help your incisions heal properly — so they are flat and thin.

Can I combine a neck lift with other facial surgeries?
At your consultation, you can bring up that you are thinking about an additional procedure, like a facelift or a chin implant. It is common for two or more face surgeries to be combined to get the best results. If you are concerned about an undefined jawline or weak chin, tell our staff so we can create a comprehensive treatment plan.

Should I get a neck lift or liposuction?
Depending on your concerns and goals, you might consider combining a neck lift with surgical liposuction. This may be best if you are concerned about both loose skin and pockets of fat in your neck. We can help you choose whether a neck lift, lipo, or a combination of both should be part of your surgical plan during your consultation.
